Dr. Clarence Talley Images from the Motherland Art Exhibit Set for Lone Star College–Montgomery Gallery

Lone Star College–Montgomery, Center for the Arts is proud to present the artwork of Dr. Clarence Talley Images from the Motherland on February 13th through March 6th with an opening reception on Tuesday, February 20th from Noon till 2:00 p.m. Clarence Talley will make a special presentation at 1:00 p.m. for guests attending the opening reception.

Dr. Talley has exhibited his work in a variety of studios and centers. His most recent exhibits include Renewed Passion, Tullibody Fine Arts at Alabama State University, All Other Ground is Sinking Sand at the John B. Coleman Library PV AMU, A View of Africa, Texas A&M University and many more.

Images from the Motherland combines work from Dr. Talley’s most recent trips to Ghana and West Africa. His travels are educational and cultural tours of the land and culture. Dr. Talley describes his most recent work through photographs and mixed media for the exhibit. “I was struck by the wide spread and wholesale adoption of the Word of God in naming and highlighting Ghanaian businesses. For some these theological signposts may seem intimidating and considered over-the-top. While for others, they may be seen as an act of obedience…I saw them as a grand expression of people, full of faith and spiritual enthusiasm.”

Robbie Wood, Assistant Professor of Ceramics emphasizes the importance of this shared art work in the gallery. “When an artist is moved by his subject it is not lost on the viewer. The students recognize when the work is sincere and get much from hearing the artist discuss the work in the lecture. ”

The gallery is a teaching gallery at Lone Star College–Montgomery and the presentations and artwork provided are free to our campus and community. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information regarding the exhibit, call Amy Cooper at (936) 273-7021.
