The Foreigner Speaks Volumes at Montgomery College
The Foreigner by Larry Shue is the fourth production of the season at Montgomery College. This production will have audience members laughing out loud and applauding the “good guys”. The Foreigner by Larry Shue will be held April 12 at 5:30 p.m., April 13-14, 19-21 at 7:30 p.m. and April 15 at
2:00 p.m. on the Mainstage (D100).
The Foreigner begins in a fishing lodge in rural Georgia often visited by "Froggy" LeSeuer, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. This time "Froggy" has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. As locals begin spilling their secrets and a plan of demise, Charlie finds himself becoming a raconteur and hero for lodge residents. Audience members will enjoy the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the "bad guys," and the "good guys" emerge triumphant.
Chase Waites, Director and Assistant Professor of Drama selected the play based on the challenge of acting in a comedy for our students as well as audience appeal.
“The Foreigner is one of the funniest and smartest comedies ever written. We have had a variety of offerings this season and the time is right for a comedy. Comic acting is so much more difficult that dramatic acting and our students are ready for another challenge.
This is one of those plays that, when done well, is one you will always remember as being one of the most enjoyable experiences you have ever had in the theatre.”
This comedy will be set on the Mainstage (D100) at the college. April 13th is scholarship night for the theatre department at Montgomery College. All proceeds collected through ticket and concession sales will be specifically allocated for the Montgomery College theatre scholarship fund.
