Saxophonist and Jazz Educator Mark Holter resides in The Woodlands, TX with his wife Gretchen and one son Rodney. He has directed the Lone Star College–Montgomery Jazz Ensemble since 2003. Holter also teaches Jazz Combo and does private lessons in Saxophone, Clarinet, Arranging and Composition.

Mark makes a living as a professional musician and music educator specializing in Jazz. He works full time for ProjectGRAD Houston, a non-profit group that provides Fine Arts Education to inner-city elementary students.

The Lone Star College–Montgomery Jazz Orchestra has been featured at Market Street, Gulf Coast Jazz Festival, HCC Jazz Festival, and numerous concerts on campus. The MCJO released their first CD in Fall of 2004 in a combined effort with Houston Community College. The band is also featured on the MC SWIRL CD which was released in the Spring of 2005.

Mark received a Bachelor of Music Education from West Virginia University, a Master of Music degree in Performance from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music and is presently working towards a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting.

Holter has been featured as soloist with the Texas All-State Jr. College Jazz Ensemble, Conroe ISD Honor Band, MacArthur HS, Katy HS, New Caney HS, Oak Ridge HS and has been a clinician with Texas Regions IX , V, and XXIII for Region Jazz. Holter has been a featured Clinician at TMEA and TBA. He has also appeared as an adjudicator at many Jazz Festivals all over the state.

Mark has toured extensively and played shows for many performers such as Tony Bennett, Kay Starr, Coasters, Temptations, Four Tops, Platters, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Spinners, and many others! He has also had the opportunity to play music with such luminaries as Charlie Haden, Joe Henderson, Conrad Herwig, Terence Blanchard, Adam Nussbaum, Willie Thomas, Marvin Stam, Red Holloway and many other notables. Mark has written compositions, arrangements, and transcriptions which have been played by many big bands, small groups, and all styles of bands.
