Statement of Accreditation
| In order to work as a professional nurse, a person must be licensed by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (BNE). To take the national licensing examination (NCLEX-RN), a person must graduate from an approved educational program, which is accredited. The ADN programs at Lone Star College System are approved by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners, and accredited by the National League of Nursing. |
Statement of Licensure
| A person who has been convicted of a felony that relates to the duties and responsibilities of the ADN, may be disqualified from obtaining licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas. In addition, applicants who have been treated for psychiatric illness or drug or alcohol abuse within the past three years may also be ineligible for licensure. Applicants with a felony or misdemeanor that does not relate to the duties of a nurse, or who have been treated for mental illness or drug or alcohol dependency will be required to submit documentation related to their circumstances. For further information, please refer to the BNE website at www.bne.state.tx.us under Nurse Practice Act, subchapter F, Rule 301.257 All candidates for licensure will undergo DPS and FBI background checks. |
Health & Immunization Status
| Students must be physically and emotionally able to meet all program requirements, including the rendering of safe nursing care in the clinical setting. Nursing care involves exposure to patients with infectious and blood-borne diseases. After acceptance, students are required to submit documentation of a physical examination and immunizations according to current standards and facility requirements. The Texas Department of Health is now requiring students to have Hepatitis B vaccination completion prior to direct patient contact. In addition, it is required that students submit documentation of current CPR training designed for Health-Care Providers. |
Professional Liability Insurance
| All Transition nursing students are required to carry professional liability insurance. This fee is attached to the clinical courses. |
Progression Requirements
| To remain in good standing and progress within the Transition Nursing Program curriculum, students must maintain a “C” (70%) average in ALL concurrent Nursing courses. Students who are unsuccessful in the first semester of the Transition Program, are NOT eligible for readmission to the program. Instead, they must reapply to the basic track program. |
Comprehensive exit exam
| Students are required to successfully pass a comprehensive NCLEX-RN exit test prior to program completion. Each student receives a report of the results. This exam serves to identify strong and weak areas and provides a valuable study guide to be used in preparation for the national licensing examination. Students who do not pass this exam after 3 attempts will have to repeat course work. |
Student Conduct
| Applicants to the nursing program are expected to conduct themselves professionally. Applicants who become disruptive may not have their applications considered and may face disciplinary action as stated in the Lone Star College System student handbook and college catalogs. In the event that a violation of policy is also a violation of State or Federal law, the College may decide to proceed with the disciplinary processes. |
