The Language and Culture Institute of Lone Star College–Montgomery is a Licensed Official Registered Provider of Command Spanish®, Inc. language and cross-cultural training programs. Command Spanish® is the nation's leading provider of occupational Spanish language programs. We offer on-site, job-specific Spanish language and cross-cultural training in Business, Dental & Medical, Criminal Justice, Education, Industry & Manufacturing, Hospitality, and Public Safety. Academic English
The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program is for college-bound and transitioning professionals. Offered only at the Main Campus, coursework focuses on key elements of language acquisition - reading, writing, and oral communication. The ESOL program offers four levels: High Beginning, Intermediate, High Intermediate, and Advanced. Courses are scheduled weekdays from 8:30-1:20PM and in the evening from 6:00-9:00PM. ESL Compass Placement test required. International students must register for college credit; others may register for Continuing Education sections. Companies coping with issues of language and culture in the workplace can take advantage of our English program for Health Care, Hospitality, Manufacturing, Trades, and Customer Service and Sales. We listen to you and design a course to improve productivity, safety, presentation, and customer service skills; take advantage of your employees' higher-level skills by reducing communication language and culture gaps. Critical Need Foreign Languages
Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Hindi, and Farsi, are among the languages identified as critical to U.S. national security, cultural awareness, and trade; Customized training is available on-site. Linked to College Credit Courses
Courses in which both semester credit hour and continuing education students are enrolled are linked; spring 2008 topics: ESOL, American Sign Language, Chinese, Creative Writing, French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, & Technical Communications. Courses run during the semester and summer; linked courses have prerequisites, and require that you do the same work, including testing, as credit students. Technical Writing
Customized training courses can be developed for your technical writing team; topics include elements of persuasion, audience/rhetorical sensitivity, and document design. Technical writing training involves graphic design techniques, clear and concise phrasing, and accurate detail, all tailored for a specific purpose and audience. Some possible training topics are website design, advertising methods, report writing, business correspondences, proposals, grants, presentations, editing, program management, project management, format selection, and writing style.
