How to apply for Financial Aid
Students must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to receive federal and state grants, loans and work study employment.
Step 1:
Students submit their FAFSA form electronically by visiting the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This is the fastest way to apply for financial aid because any errors or missed information will be identified before the form is accepted. The possibility of the data being rejected is reduced.
Be certain to enter Lone Star College–Montgomery’s school code: E00809.
The Department of Education sends the student a Student Aid Report (SAR) and Lone Star College–Montgomery receives an ISIR on which the student’s data is summarized.
The FAFSA is required every year to apply for financial aid. Any corrections should be made through www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Step 2:
If you are a new student, submit the Lone Star College System Application for Admission and the Lone Star College System Financial Aid Worksheet. If you are a returning student, we only need an updated Lone Star College System Financial Aid Worksheet for Financial Aid. This worksheet is required every year.
The Lone Star College System Financial Aid Worksheet is available in the Advising Office or can be downloaded at the Financial Aid website. The application for Admissions can be found online at the advising website.
Please be aware of application deadlines. The priority deadline at Lone Star College–Montgomery is June 1st for Fall, October 15th for Spring and March 1st for Summer. Please look at the important dates page to view the critical dates for each semester.
Step 3:
The financial aid office will contact you if additional information is needed to complete your application. Please respond to all requests in a timely fashion to avoid delays in your application processing.
Step 4:
After all information has been received at the financial aid office and your file is complete you will receive either a (n):
- Award Notification Email – indicating the maximum aid you are eligible for and the dollar amounts for each semester.
- Non-Eligible Email – notifying you that you are not eligible for financial grant assistance.
Step 5:
To apply for a loan you must:
1. Complete all four steps above and receive a determination of eligibility email
2. Attend a loan entrance session
3. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 at any Lone Star College System college
4. Be currently enrolled for at least 6 credit hours
5. Complete the Loan Request (on the back of the Lone Star College System Financial Aid Worksheet)
Loan applications are processed according to a Lone Star College–Montgomery schedule. Loan monies are not available to the student until 30 days after classes begin. There are no summer loans.
