Business and Computers
The Extended Learning Center is an excellent place to utilize and study computer technology. Our large computer lab boasts a wide variety of software applications for both Windows and Macintosh users. Our knowledgeable staff can assist you with most of the applications available, and provide tutorial assistance with a broad range of technology related issues.
Business and accounting tutoring is offered at the Extended Learning Center 10-20 hours per week. The accounting tutors' schedule is posted in the ELC at the beginning of each semester. Help is available for introductory and intermediate Accounting I and II, and cost accounting. Individual or small group times can also be arranged to meet student needs. Help with economics is also available.
Reading and Writing and Languages
Reading and Writing Services welcomes those who are interested in improving their writing and reading abilities. By providing a safe environment where each writer and reader is valued, students are encouraged to delve into language, explore ideas, discover meanings and communicate with an audience without formal evaluation. This low-risk environment ultimately increases self-confidence and autonomy, enhancing academic and personal success.
Help in Spanish, French and Italian is offered for grammar issues and conversational practice. Tutorial software is also available for use in the Extended Learning Center in the first floor of building C. During the Spring and Fall semesters, the Extended Learning Center offers language tutoring 30 hours per week. Call 936.273.7055 for an appointment. Walk-ins are welcomed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Math, Science, and Music
Math, science, and music tutors support student success in many ways. Understanding students' learning styles and individual needs is a priority. Tutors assist students primarily on a walk-in basis with homework help on paper or the computer. In addition, individual appointments (for math) may be made during selected times for a limited duration. Seminars and study groups may be arranged upon request for a variety of topics including fractions, factoring, word problems and "Math Prep for Compass, Asset and THEA Tests."
We also offer tutoring and supplemental resources to help students in the sciences (geology, biology, chemistry and physics), music (ear training & music theory), and nursing (math skills for pharmacology, LVN and ADN).
