The Lone Star College-Montgomery Child Care Center is enrolling for the upcoming fall semester. Currently-enrolled or prospective students at LSC-Montgomery are eligible to enroll their children in the center.
Interfaith of The Woodlands, a non-profit organization with its own nationally-accredited child care center, operates and manages the facility. In fall 2005, the college began offering on-campus child care services for its students.
"Our child care center has been extremely popular since it began operation," said Dr. Julie Leidig, vice president instruction at LSC-Montgomery. "It has allowed many students to enroll in classes who otherwise may not have been able to continue their education."
The service fills a tremendous need among the college’s students. In an online survey conducted prior to the opening of the child care center, more than 70 percent of the student respondents indicated that lack of childcare had prevented them from attending classes.
The child care center provides care for children 18 months to 12 years of age while their parents attend classes. The center is available for all LSC-Montgomery students, faculty and staff members on a space-limited basis. A limited amount of financial assistance for child care services is also available. Students, faculty and staff must pre-register their children through the Student Services office at the college prior to the first day of classes. Fees for child care services will be assessed by LSC-Montgomery at $6 per hour for each participating child. A sliding fee schedule is available for some students.
During the fall semester, the center will operate Monday-Thursday (7 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Friday (7 a.m.-1 p.m.).
The LSC-Montgomery Child Care Center is located on the western edge of the campus, adjacent to LSC-University Center. To reach the center, take the LSC-University Center entrance off of College Park Drive (located in between the two college entrances) and turn left as you approach the LSC-University Center building. The center is located straight ahead.
