Special Needs Testing

Special Needs Testing

Tests are modified and adapted for students with disabilities. Disability support resources are available with prior scheduling. Interpreters, readers, and scribes are also available for students with qualifying disabilities.

Special needs students who utilize the Testing Center for exams must first submit their accommodations form to the instructor. Some accommodations (such as a scribe, oral reader, etc.) may require arrangements made in advance. Students authorized to receive extended time must consult closing times of the Testing Center so that the exam can be completed within scheduled hours and within one sitting.

Students should be aware that:
  • All students are required to take TASP even if they were exempt from TAAS in high school.
  • There are no Special Education classes at the college level. While students may receive various modifications to the manner in which instruction is delivered, the student must attain college-level competency in reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • The special accommodations must not alter the fundamental nature of the program: All students must meet all requirements of the course.
  • The accommodations will commence from the time the student presents the special needs form to the instructor and will continue until changed by the office of special services. The accommodations are not retroactive to any instruction or assignments prior to receipt of the form.
The following procedures should be followed to request special accommodations:
  • Secure copies of disability documentation.
  • Recent high school graduates can supply diagnostic test scores available from their high school office.
  • Other sources of testing documentation can be provided by a private physician, psychologist, or the Disability Assistive Rehabiliation Services (DARS).

New students should fax or mail a copy of disability documentation to the Student Development in order to receive possible accommodations for TASP-Alternative testing.
