Student Support

Attending LSC-Montgomery means something different for each and every student. That's because our students are unique, with a wide range of goals and aspirations. Yet, ultimately, it comes down to one thing: they want to be better prepared for post-college life. To that end, LSC-Montgomery has developed an environment ripe for student success. Not only do we offer a wide range of associate degree and transfer options, but we back them up with a commitment to help you succeed. That means on-site tutors and success seminars, free of charge, small class sizes, averaging just 24 students per class, and a convenient one-stop apprach to advising, financial aid, registering, etc.
Student support in the biotechnology program begins with quality instruction from dedicated instructors. Students in the programs tend to work cohesively as a group and closely with instructors. Bonding through group activities is encouraged as careers are developed and often pursued within the biotechnology industries in this area. The students in your class will often be co-workers in the laboratory where you are later employed. While the instruction in biotechnology is both exciting and rigorous, the support necessary for success is provided. Some of the support that students routinely take advantage of includes:
Extended Learning Center (ELC)
The ELC offers computers with Internet Access and free tutorial services in math, biology, English, and writing. This is available over 80 hours per week. Free success seminars are posted and provided in a variety of areas, from study skills to note and test taking, and more. For more information, call (936) 273-7373.
Job Placement
Partnerships with local biotechnology companies afford an opportunity for students to know and interact with local industry. The website posts available job offerings. LSBI is committed to keeping abreast of the workforce needs of local companiese and providing a link between training and employment for students.
Extended Education
LSC-Montgomery is committed to offering many levels of training for biotechnology. The two-year degree is established and can be reviewed through A.A.S. in Biotechnology. Short term training (approximately two weeks) is being developed for entry level bioprocessing jobs with local industry. Grant funding to develop a one-year certificate program is being sought. Upon receiving a two-year degree, students also have the option of transferring to any number of institutions for a four-year degree, including the University of Houston Downtown. LSBI is currently in the process of setting up a mechanism where students can remain on campus and earn a B.S. in biotechnology at the University Center.
Counseling and Advising
The LSC-Montgomery Advising Center provides career exploration, testing, and job-seeking training to anyone needing those services.
Collaboration is the key to student success in this program. LSC-Montgomery prides itself in establishing excellent community connections throughout the county and providing the highest quality of instruction, facilities, and state-of-the-art technology. Academic support services are numerous and of high quality, and the support extends through job placement activities and collaboration with other universities for students who want to obtain a four-year degree.
