Earn Credit in Just Three Weeks With Summer Mini-mesters at Lone Star College-Montgomery

Beginning May 12 and continuing throughout the summer, Lone Star College-Montgomery is offering more than 50 ways to earn college credit in three- and four-week mini-mester fast-track formats. Classes will be held Monday through Friday either on campus or via distance learning, with many classes meeting the Texas core curriculum transfer requirement. Mini-mester classes will not be held on Monday, May 26, due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Courses starting May 12 include include: Art Appreciation (ARTS 1301); Nutrition (BIOL 1322); Families, Schools and Community (TECA 1303); Microcomputer Applications (COSC 1401); Intro to Computers (ITSC 1401); Intro to Theatre (DRAM 1310); History of Theatre (DRAM 2362); Micro-Economics (ECON 2302); Composition & Rhetoric I (ENGL 1301); Composition & Rhetoric II (ENGL 1302); Survey of British Literature (ENGL 2322); World Literature – Ancient Times (ENGL 2332); American Government I & II (GOVT 2301 and 2302); United States History To 1877 (HIST 1301); United State History Since 1877 (HIST 1302); Problems of Children and Adolescents (CMSW 1309); Intro. to Algebra (MATH 0308); Intermediate Algebra (MATH 0310); College Algebra (MATH 1314); Trigonometry (MATH 1316); College Math for Liberal Arts (MATH 1332); Foundations of Math (MATH 1350); Music Fundamentals (MUSI 1301); Music Appreciation (MUAP 1306); Intro. to Philosophy (PHIL 1301); General Psychology (PSYC 2301); Life-Span Growth & Development (PSYC 2314); Principles of Sociology (SOCI 1301); Social Psychology (SOCI 2326); Public Speaking (SPCH 1315); Interpersonal Communication (SPCH 1318); and Business Speech (SPCH 1321).
Some of these courses are offered online as well as in person. Other courses with start dates later in the summer or in a four-week format include Art Appreciation, Intro. to Computers, Theatre Practicum, and Music Appreciation. Mini-mester classes offered in the evenings include Nutrition, Micro-Economics, and Composition & Rhetoric I & II,
According to Dr. Julie Leidig, vice president of instruction at LSC-Montgomery, mini-mester classes are ideal for students who like focused and intensive study or those who need to complete course work quickly to meet the pre-requisites for more advanced work.

“Many students report a high degree of satisfaction with the mini-mester format,” said Dr. Leidig. “Those who want to be successful in their mini-mester classes should be prepared to devote many of their waking hours to the course work.  Working during the mini-mester is definitely not recommended.”

On-site registration for everyone is ongoing. New students attending for the first time from other colleges or universities must have an official college transcript sent to LSC-Montgomery prior to registration and should also complete the online admissions application at www.lonestar.edu/apply.
