Lone Star College-Montgomery Division of Instructional Support Services / Extended Learning Center(ELC) is pleased to announce the debut of its English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL student publication, The Global Pen.

Students, faculty and staff enjoyed light refreshments at the debut celebration on March 19th, 2008, in the foyer of the campus theatre. The Global Pen was well received by all. The students who published in The Global Pen did an excellent job and expressed how much they had learned through the experience.

Claudia Lange, LSC- Program Coordinator of the Extended Learning Center, noticed a need for ESOL students on campus to develop their writing and editing skills as well as to have voice and creative outlet to express their unique talents and gifts, She approached David H. Zimmerman, Professor, English, Department Chair, English, and he enthusiastically agreed to partner with the to launch this ambitious effort.

Lange named Linda P, Kozar, an LSC-Montgomery Level III ELC Tutor in Creative Writing and author of three books to facilitate the staff and faculty advisors which include: Roland Cirilio, Adjunct Faculty ESOL, Robin Gawronska, Adjunct Faculty, English, ESOL, and Susan S. Hartle, Adjunct Faculty, ESOL.

The Global Pen features articles, photography and artwork by six international students: Elizabeth “Lisi” Mauch, Lizbeth Franco, M. Gabriela Delgado, Diana Ramirez, Mozhgan Purasadollah and Viviana Carbone. Articles and columns focus on sports, politics, cooking, interviews and personal interest. Future issues will include an even wider, diverse offering of topics.
