A new addition is the Summer Camp Movie Festival. Designed for those in grades 4-8, the festival includes four movies (Tuesdays and Thursdays) shown prior to the start of the traditional two-week camps. For just $12, campers can watch "Happy Feet," "Over the Hedge," "The Ant Bully," and "Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit." The movies run from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and campers must be registered for the two-week camp session, which immediately follows the movie.

Summer Camp Movie Festival, Grades 4-5 and 6-8

Come beat the heat by watching a movie with your friends. Enjoy
four different films during our Lone Star College-Montgomery
Summer Camp Movie Festival. In order to participate in the
Movie Festival campers must be registered in the afternoon
Class session immediately following the movie. Campers may

APPALACHIAN BASKETMAKING - JUNE SESSION ONLY, Grades 4-5 and 6-8

Basket making is an ancient art form evolved from the need to help gather
Food and materials from nature. Appalachian basketry is known for its

BASIC WOOD CARVING, Grades 6-8

This class will cover the different qualities of woods used in carving and
The basic principles of using a carving knife, other cutting tools and a

CARTOONING & CARICATURE, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
Learning to draw facial expressions, action figures and famous cartoon
Characters like Popeye and Superman is a great way to combine drawing
And storytelling. Use your imagination to create your own cartoon
character.


CLAY & SCULPTURE, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$8 supply fee
This "tactile" art form will wake the artist's senses whit instruction about
different types of clay while building assorted and useful objects. Students
will make their own beads to create jewelry, build hand made bowls and
explore other three-dimensional mediums using a variety of materials,
such as twigs, wire and other found objects.

COMMON SCENTS, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$5 supply fee
Aromatherapy is a tantalizing art and fascinating science using "aromas"
made by blending pure oils extracted from plants, trees and herbs to
aid healing and well being. It has ancient roots and evidence of its use
dates back to early Egyptian times. Awaken your sense of smell while
mixing and experimenting with combinations of these "common scents"
to make body spritzers, bath oils, skin care toners or room refreshers
as a special treat for you or to share with your friends and family.

CREATIVE DRAWING, Grades 4-5
By studying line, shadow, color, still life and figure drawing, enjoy
learning the fundamentals of freehand drawing with pencil and
charcoal. Expanding the basics with the use of pastels or colored
pencils to add color can add different perspective to the same drawing.

EXPLORATIONS IN ART, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$5 supply fee
Let your creativity begin! Learn some of the basic principles of design
using watercolors and acrylic paints by exploring the combination of
found objects and the fine art of paper collage. Further adventures
in printmaking will expand your creativity using scratchboard and
Styrofoam. This is not "just an ordinary art class."


FABRIC FRENZY, Grades 6-8
$8 supply fee
Learning the basic fundamentals can be a little "crazy" as students
apply their creativity in designing, cutting, arranging and then quilting
a final project, based on the concept of crazy quilting. This art form
appeared on the scene during the Victorian Era providing women a
way to showcase their needlework talents by combining quilt pieces in
a random fashion.

INTRO TO CARVING, Grades 4-5
$5 supply fee
Learn basic carving techniques on soft objects, such as soap, by using
simple cutting tools. This class will cover the topics of safety techniques,
use of simple carving tools and creating and using carving patterns.
Choose between several options of three-dimensional objects to carve.

KNIT AND FELT, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$8 supply fee
Knitting is one of the oldest crafts and evidence of
this art form has been found as far away as Egypt
from over 1000 years ago. By learning the basics of
knitting and a simple felting technique which makes
the fibers interlock, novice knitters will complete a
small felted knit project. Students will also have the
opportunity to embellish their finished piece with items
of their own creative choice.

POLYMER CLAY CREATIONS, Grades 6-8
$5 supply fee
Polymer clay is a soft, tantalizing material that works a lot like clay which
can be molded, textured or sculpted and uses a standard oven to fire
and preserve the finished piece. Share in its magical versatility while
discovering some of the basic characteristics, tools and techniques
for creating and adding embellishments to simple designs such as
beads, candleholders, ornaments, jewelry or boxes. Explore the wide
spectrum of colors and discover new ways to combine colors to make
each project unique.

SCRAPPIN' & STAMPIN', Grades 6-8
$20 supply fee
Combining several popular art mediums, this class starts out with the
beginning principles of scrapbooking, but adds creative flair with the
use of rubber-stamping to add more dimension to your project. This
creative combination can give a whole new meaning to card making,
bookmarks, gift boxes and more using inked impressions and applying
simple design elements. Be surprised at what a masterpiece can be
created without drawing a single line. Please make note that this course
meets for two time sessions allowing the student more gratifying and
comprehensive time with scrapping along with the choice of one more
course to explore diversity during the session.

THEATRE WORKSHOP, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
Experience an acting "workout" with curriculum and activities designed
to develop fundamental acting skills. Demonstrate text exploration
with short scenes from familiar plays, including those of Shakespeare,
exercise voice and movement skills, vocal techniques, characterization
and stage movement. Build confidence and self-esteem while
exploring individual creativity through active listening, theatre games,
character development, improvisation, pantomime and ensemble work.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$5 supply fee
Adobe Photoshop 7.0 lays the foundation for a whirlwind discovery of
how to import and alter photographs, scan selected images and print
properly. Showcase your own creativity and a new understanding of
these few navigational directives by designing your own CD cover and
creating fictitious backstage passes.

GOING DIGITAL & ADOBE, Grades 6-8
Going digital is the new buzz! Perfect for beginning digital photographers,
practice new skills needed to get comfortable using the technical imaging
combination of a digital camera and Adobe software. Get familiar with
using your digital camera and complete a few assignments. Then
progress your skills with lessons in transforming images, removing
"red eye," changing composition by cropping and enlarging, balancing
color or adding text to create a new look with Adobe Photoshop. Please
bring your digital camera to class every day to get the maximum benefit.

MASTERING MATH & MONEY, Grades 6-8
Why do we have to learn our "times tables?" Just
can't get fractions and decimals? Don't miss
this chance to master math while discussing
cooking, shopping, planning parties, running
your own small business and balancing checking
accounts, while understanding credit, saving,
spending and budgeting, using the "mighty" dollar.

Math Mania: Multiplying Money, Grades 4-5
Get a head start on memorizing those multiplication facts and
solving word problems involving money. This class can help
you sharpen your skills by using hands-on activities and fun
learning games that will stress important memorization strategies.

VIDEO PRODUCTION 101, Grades 4-5 and 6-8

Using the Mac computer graphic workstation as an introductory creative tool, students
journey into the basics of computer operation and production technique to create and
edit a short video clip. Working together while brainstorming ideas, emphasis is on
the basic instruction in editing this video footage, where all the footage is pieced
together and the final product is produced by adding basic titles, credits, transitions
a n d p o s s i b l y, s o un d ef fe c t s . When Inspiration Finds Empowerment... Imagine
the Possibilities!

WRITERS WORKSHOP, Grades 4-5 and 6-8

In this young writers' workshop, students will enter a journey of
selecting their topic of interest and then developing it from writing and
illustration to "publishing." Special appearances by local guest authors
will provide ideas and knowledge based on their own experiences.

BABYSITTING CERTIFICATION, Grades 4-5 and 6-8

Get ready to baby sit. This hands-on class will cover all aspects of child
safety, home safety, first aid techniques and role-playing in potential
problem situations. Students will receive official certification upon course
completion. Students must be age 11 or older to receive certification.

Cakes and Cookie Decorating, Grades 6-8

Stop wondering and begin to fancy yourself decorating
cakes, cookies and cupcakes with frosting flowers, stems,
leaves and borders. Let the taste tests begin. Please make
note that this course meets for two time sessions allowing
the student more gratifying and comprehensive time with
cake decorating along with the choice of one more course
to explore diversity during the session.

Conversationa l Spanish, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
Emphasis is on beginning Spanish conversation to include basic words
and phrases.

FASHION WORKBOOK , Grades 4-5 and 6-8

Take a walk on the wild side. Develop character, build confidence and
discover your essential "look." Explore fashion history and trends while
practicing hair and make-up health and artistry, color profiles and clothing
tips. Practice creative inspiration for translating trendy outfits into your
own style.

FROM TRASH TO TOWERS, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
Instead of sending plastic, newspapers and other cool stuff to the
recycling plant, enjoy the simple challenge of building something from
nothing while focusing on simple design principles. Using anything and
everything from Q-tips® to coat hangers, display collective and creative
imagination building mouse-size space structures and kid-inhabitable
space frames.

GIRLS' NIGHT OUT, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$12 supply fee
Girls just "wanna have fun" and that's just what you'll have
creating novelty projects with trendy bottle caps, mosaics and
paper, decorating flip-flops and tying friendship bracelets. Make
your own no-sew pillow and scarf with fleece using embellishments
of your creative choice and pamper yourself with manicures and
pedicures. Bring one pair of flip-flops in your size and color
of your choice. Feels just like a never-ending sleepover!!!!

Guys ' Night Out, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$10 supply fee
Guys, games and duct tape will be the winning
combination for this "no girls allowed" class. Activities
include making next generation leather and duct tape projects like
wallets, wrist bands, belts or key chains that are part weekend warrior
and part just sheer cool. If you like to play games, then get ready for a
little bocce ball, maybe play a little game of poker and then showcase
some high energy fun with some of the hottest games from X-Box®,
Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. Perform all kinds of cool moves
solo or challenge other players to see who can outscore each other.
Remember, no girls allowed. Got tape????

KIDZ CUIZINE, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$5 supply fee
Our recipe for a fun class includes good-mornin' meals; take-along
lunches and delightful dinners. Campers will find themselves building
up an appetite for the diverse items on the menu that they prepare and
cook themselves in our college café. Training for all of this fun eating
will be given by professional moms in the catering and home economics
profession. Grades 4-5

BUBBLY & OOZY SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS, Grades 4-5
Discover that mixing different well-known, and not so well-known,
ingredients together will create bubbly and oozy effects with
hands-on activities that allow students to explore the physical and
chemical properties of various elements, compounds, and mixtures.

FLYING WONDERS/ ROCKET SCIENCE, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$18 supply fee
Assemble and fly your very own airplane while learning the basic
fundamentals of aerodynamics (the science of flight). Experience the
value of assembling several airplanes/gliders and learn how minor
alterations can change height, speed and flight patterns. Then blast
through a discovery of basic rocketry principles with this "out of this
world" hands-on class. Experience the technology design process by
constructing and launching a single-stage model rocket and examining
its flight performance.

JUST ROBOTIKS, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$10 supply fee
Explore engineering and programming through
individual challenges using Lego® Team Challenge
Kits, along with an introduction to the new
Lego® Team Challenge Kit NXT robot. This
course allows the student to experience the
basic components of building, programming,
problem-solving and teamwork using all the
same principles as our RoboCamp and other
robotiks courses, but does not present the same
linear and intensive instruction. Those with more
experience will have the opportunity to explore
more challenging curriculum. Please make note
that this course meets for two time sessions allowing
the student more gratifying and comprehensive time
with robotiks along with the choice of one more
course to explore diversity during the session.

LEGO® ENERGY AND ENGINEERING, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
$5 supply fee
Gearing up in pairs to build on basic concepts of engineering, students are
challenged to use simple mechanism principles to create more complex
machines with activities designed to demonstrate the use of gear ratios,
speed, pulleys, wheels and axles. Expanding on alternative uses of
energy, students are further challenged to combine these engineering
concepts with the use of capacitors and solar cells to discover how we
can use renewable energy from sunlight, wind and water to power our
lives by constructing real-life mechanisms such as windmills, waterwheels
and solar collectors.

PUZZLING PHYSICS, Grades 6-8
$5 supply fee
Learning visually and conceptually, this interactive journey explores
the scientific study of matter, energy, force and motion. Discover
how some of these components relate to each other demonstrating
simple experiments with static electricity, gravity, constructing simple
kaleidoscopes and much more.

Sports & Recreation     BACK TO TOP

CHALLENGING CHESS, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
One hour of chess instruction
per week has proven to increase
critical -thinking skills. Challenge your
concentration, while learning how to alternate
strategy, tactics and problem-solving, but
enjoying the overall goal of having fun.
Children are welcome to bring their own chess
sets.

Disc (Frisbee ) Golf, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
Come learn and play this fast-paced and exciting game. Campers will
learn rules of the game, techniques used, and all about the golf disc.
Wear tennis shoes, socks and a hat. Bring your own water jug and a disc
(if you have one), marked with your name.

Flag Football: Boys and Girls, Grades 6-8
Get an introduction to football .
Participants will learn the basics of
blocking, passing, kicking and running
with the ball, as well as basic defensive
skills and the "rules of the game." A
variety of games and scrimmages will be
played to promote the joy of football. Whether
you are well versed in the game of football or not, this will prove to be
a fun time!

FUNDAMENTALS OF FENCING, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
The art of fighting with slender swords and often called the game of
physical chess, fencing helps students gain confidence, poise, pride,
sportsmanship, work ethic, reduce stress, lose weight, increase
analytical problem-solving skills and sharpen decision-making skills.
Fencing increases coordination and awareness of the body with respect
to time, as well as increasing a keen vision and perception of space.
Experience a fast-track introduction to the basic fundamentals for this
growing sport in protocol, timing and scoring while practicing proper
blade and footwork. Get the point?

GOLF, Grades 4-5
Learn the basics of this popular sport... proper
grip, swing, chipping and putting. Bring your own
clubs-wood, iron and putter of suitable size plus a
cap and water bottle. Clubs can be stored with staff
at the administration table in the Commons during
classes.

 

RACK ‘EM UP, Grades 6-8
This is your "cue" to learn the history of pool (billiards?) and develop
skills by learning and practicing strategies and rules. Test your new
knowledge in the "Positive Spin" tournament on the last day of camp.

Soccer, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
This beginning class will cover drills including dribbling, passing, trapping,
and the overall aspects of the game. You will have fun while developing
all-around athletic ability. Wear tennis or soccer shoes, socks, and a hat.
Bring your own water jug and a soccer ball (if you have one), marked
with your name.

TENNIS, Grades 4-5 and 6-8
This is a great way to learn the basic to intermediate
techniques of the game. We'll start with proper grip,
move on to forehand and backhand strokes, then
volley, serve and score! Those students with more
experience will participate in advanced techniques.
Please bring your own racket.

VOLL EYBALL, Grades 4-5
Volleyball is a very active team sport played by two teams on a playing
court separated by a high net. Originated in the United States, it is one
of the most popular sports in the world and provides an excellent level
of aerobic exercise and helps players in their hand-eye coordination.
Talk the talk and walk the walk while receiving hands-on instruction with
the fundamental skills such as passing, setting, hitting and serving on
an outside court. Students practice outside but work inside for drills
and technique.

INTENSIVE CAMP PROGRAMS       BACK TO TOP

Broadway Connection
Working with professional instructors in a non-competitive
atmosphere, young musical theatre performers will experience
hands-on training in "triple threat" workshop instruction in singing,
acting, and dancing in musical scenes and choreographed
numbers. We are looking forward to a magical experience that
opens up the imagination, nurtures the creative spirit and inspires
youth with all of the wonder musical theatre can create. The door

School of Rock
Having those "wanna be" in a rock band blues?
Serious about your music and what you do? Time to
take that talent and energy out of the garage and into
the limelight. School of Rock presents six hours a day
with experienced musicians to help students realize
their amazing potential as artists with curriculum in
teamwork, performance and maintenance of your band
as a business. The School of Rock wants you to be
successful so only serious guitar, bass, keyboard and
drummers need apply. Leave your attitudes at the door
and get ready to take your place in the music scene
Prerequisites are as follows:
Keyboards and Guitar: instrument, amplifier and
ability to read and play chords.
Bass: instrument, amplifier and ability to follow
chords if given note names.
Drums: sticks and ability to play a variety of
rhythms (drum set available at camp).

Fencing Intensive
Thrust your way into this exciting and challenging sport of
intelligence and skill while mastering the art of swordsmanship
under the instruction of professional fencing masters and
international tournament champions. In this one-week intensive,
lunge into the fundamentals of balance, footwork, body movement
and blade training. Within a few days, campers begin to spar,
crossing foils with peers, while building team work and problem
solving skills as well as physical, social and mental confidence.
Demonstrate your new swordsmanship and empowerment while
participating in a small tournament on the last day. There's a little
bit of Zorro in all of us. Tournament held on Friday.

Theatre Intensive
Young thespians will experience an
introduction to the art of character
development in a fast-paced and
challenging atmosphere orchestrated by
highly imaginative and skilled educators. This
intensive week of training embarks on an
exciting journey exploring classes in voice
and diction, movement, basic and advanced
acting techniques, monologues, duets, insight
into auditions, stage combat, and a variety
of stimulating improvisational exercises that
will serve as a springboard for young actors
who wish to pursue theatrical endeavors. Enjoy
observing "real deal" auditions performed by guest
professional actors, guest mime performances and stage combat
choreographers. Break a Leg!!!

Soccer camp
Boys & girls
This sports camp is designed to provide a supportive environment
where boys and girls can develop their individual skills and an
understanding of soccer. Participants will learn ball control,
trapping, teamwork, strategies and a variety of other skills. A
variety of games and scrimmages will be played to promote the
joy of soccer. Whether you are well versed in the game of soccer
or not this camp will prove to be a fun time! Students need to
provide shin guards for their protection.

Robocamp

With modern technology turning more to the use of robots, it is only
timely that this program should introduce our students to robotics
concepts through teamwork and problem solving challenges. With
the help of LEGO® team challenge kits, students will simulate reallife
robotics and robotics systems while learning simple engineering
and robotic programming, in theme related concepts, using timing,
loops and conditionals. RoboCamp leads teams through exercises,
projects and challenges while learning that process and problemsolving
become integral parts of the curriculum.
New missions and skills are researched prior to the launching
of our program in order to continue to teach new challenges to
returning campers and maintain their interest, as well as introduce
a whole new world of robotics to those campers just entering our
program.

RoboCamp Advanced
Students with previous experience with LEGO® robotics gain
hands-on experience in advanced engineering, computer
programming principles and advanced applications of sensors,
motors and gears, as they are challenged to design, build,
program and test autonomous robots using the new LEGO® NXT
Robot.
Students registering for this class must have knowledge and
application of ROBOLAB programming, sensors and gears and
should be able to write a program using the ROBOLAB software.

Youth Conversational ESL
The summer is a good time to strengthen English language skills
