Drawing I (ARTS 1316) - is a great beginning for students who love to draw what they see. Many students begin with no experience since junior high school, and others have had some high school art. Its focus is representational art using all the usual subject matter of artists still-life, landscape, figure and portrait. We use charcoal, ink, graphite, oil pastels, conte crayon and mixed media to achieve our goals. Most semesters we draw at the pond on campus and take a trip to Mercer Arboretum to draw in color.
Drawing II (ARTS 1317) - expands on the skills learned in Drawing I. It also includes learning to abstract, working in a series, working in color and finding more personal means of expression. To acquaint students with contemporary artists, I usually choose a couple artists, such as Robert Rauschenburg or James Rosenquist whose working methods and styles we can explore.
