TRANSCRIPTING SL PROJECTS
REQUIREMENTS FOR POSTING SL ON TRANSCRIPT If a Service Learning project attached to a course requires fifteen hours of community service or more for the semester, and a student meets that requirement, the district will make note of the student’s service to the community by posting an ‘S’ on their transcript next to the course. This can be a valuable reward to the student in terms of transferring to a university or presenting their volunteer service as part of a resume. Your effort in getting these volunteer hours transcripted will be greatly appreciated by the district, by the college, but most importantly by the student. The process for posting this credit on a transcript is below. (Note: Only students in your courses that have met the minimum of fifteen volunteer hours within the semester are eligible for this posting.) STEPS FOR POSTING SL ON TRANSCRIPT 1. Create an email containing the student’s name, student ID#, and course information (for example: MATH 1314.42003). 2. Be sure to note that it is from Lone Star College–Montgomery, and include the term the credit was obtained (for example: Fall 2007). 3. Type "Service Learning Credit" in the subject line. 4. Send the email to Glen Wood at Glen.N.Wood@lonestar.edu 5. A separate email will be required for each student that has earned a "Service Learning" posting on their transcript. (It might help to create a format for the first student and re-use that format each time.) As always, if you need assistance, or would like for someone on the Service Learning Advisory Committee to complete the process for you, do not hesitate to contact Jason Cates at (936)273-7243, or by email at jason.m.cates@lonestar.edu.
