RN/LVN REFRESHER PROGRAM

Are you thinking about returning to work in the nursing field?
Consider taking Lone Star College-Montgomery's 16 week on-line course designed for the:
1. currently licensed RN/LVN who has been away from the clinical setting for a period of time
2.RN/LVN who is applying for reinstatement of licensure or
3. RN/LVN who is applying for Texas licensure coming from another state.

This course includes the current role of the nurse, nursing process, basic pharmacology, medication administration, IV therapy, phlebotomy techniques, documentation, quality assurance and legal issues. Current nursing practice as related to the clinical areas of medical-surgical, maternal-child, psychiatric-mental health, community health and emergency nursing care.

 This course is designed for RN/ LVN's wishing to return to practice or update previous nursing knowledge. This course includes a required 16-hour lab practicum piece as well as the 80-hour clinical course with a trained preceptor. These two courses can be taken concurrently or the semester following this course.

The second part of this course will include a nursing skills performance and assessment piece that will take place in a structured simulation laboratory setting. This is an update of nursing skills and information and/or other specific patient techniques. The student must be currently enrolled in the nurse refresher course.

The third part of the course is the 80 hour preceptor piece which is clinically based. This is a health related work based learning experience that will enable the student to apply specialized occupational theory skills and concepts.

Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional (preceptor). The student will do patient care under the guidance of the preceptor, working the preceptor's schedule. The Program Manager will work with the student on the facility for the clinical. A current or pending Texas nursing license, current CPR for the Healthcare provider, proof of current immunization record as well as a background check are required for participation in the clinical piece of this course.

What is the cost of the program?
The RN/LVN Refresher Theory is: $342.
The RN/LVN skills lab course is: $82.00.
The RN/LVN Clinical Preceptorship is: $246.00.
Liability Insurance fee: $5.00-$19.00 (depending on the semester)

Annual salaries for LVN staff nurses average $32,500; for RN staff nurses, the average is $45,000. *For most healthcare programs, students are now required to have a complete immunization record to include a current TB screening (within one year of doing direct patient contact) as well as a completed Hepatitis B series (consisting of three shots). Some healthcare facilities may require a clear background check and a clean drug screen.
