Presentation of basic reading, writing, and listening skills for students whose primary language is other than English. Extensive practice in reading and comprehending simple short stories, articles, and dialogs and writing related sentences. Emphasis on high-frequency vocabulary (basic sight words) and phonics; refining oral and written production and listening skills; and increasing control of the English sound system to minimize miscommunication or misinterpretation due to foreign accent. Students take placement test and purchase textbook.
