The following Student Success classes help students to develop essential life skills by encouraging exploration of personal responsibility, self-motivation, interdependence and self esteem. Extensive coverage of study skills includes: note taking, test taking, time management, and learning styles. We will teach you the strategies and tools needed to achieve student success!

HUMD 0101 College 101: First Year Introduction

This course is designed to orient new Lone Star College System students to the college and the information necessary to be successful. Specifically, students will learn about:

  • Important Campus Resources
  • Registration, Advising, and Financial Aid
  • College Survival Skills

HUMD 0111 Strategic Learning Systems

In this course, students will learn a series of skills for achieving success in college courses, such as:

  • How to effectively read textbooks and understand lectures
  • How to study for and take tests
  • How to better understand how you learn
  • How to better utilize critical thinking and study skills
8 weeks - 1 credit hour
HUMD 0112 Learning Strategies for Math & Science Classes

This course teaches thinking and study skills geared toward success in learning math and sciences, focusing on:

  • Overcoming math anxiety
  • Problem solving skills
  • Test taking skills
  • Intellectual skills
  • Learning Styles and Time Management

HUMD 0114 Learning Strategies for Career Exploration

This course focuses on strategies students need to develop realistic careers. The topics to be emphasized are:

  • Decision making
  • Skills and interests
  • Self-awareness assessment
  • Occupational research techniques
  • Career investigation
  • Resume writing

HUMD 0330 College Success Course

The purpose of this course is to increase the full realization of academic potential and to decrease academic failure. This course will achieve this goal by teaching students to:

  • Identify learning styles and study skills that work best
  • Manage time more effectively
