Professional:
Dr. Smith is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Lone Star College–Montgomery. He teaches Trumpet; Jazz; Music Theory; American Music; and directs the Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensembles. Previous to his tenure at Lone Star College–Montgomery, he served on the faculty at Berry College, GA (2001-2007), and taught public school instrumental music in the Rio Grande Valley at Weslaco I.S.D., and the Los Fresnos C.I.S.D., (1997-2001).
A highly accomplished performer, Dr. Smith has shared the stage with many prominent artists and groups in classical music, jazz, r&b, and musical theatre, including: The Chamber Players of the South; The Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, The Rome Symphony Orchestra; The Blue Mountain Brass; The Victoria Bach Festival Orchestra; The Georgia Bach Festival Orchestra; The Lionel Hampton Orchestra; Diane Schuur Orchestra; Duke Ellington Repertory w/ Gunther Schuller; Camelot w/ Richard Harris; The Radio City Music Hall Rockettes w/ Peter Allen; Jamal Thomas; Jim Bell Quartet; Charlie Haden; The Macon All-Stars; The Bongodogs; Clocktower Jazz Ensemble; Circus Bands; Rodeo Bands; Holiday on Ice; Sam & Dave; Jerry Lewis; The Crowder All-Star Jazz Orchestra;, and many others.
In addition to his teaching and performance career, Dr. Smith is an arranger and composer, and a highly sought after clinician/adjudicator.
